about

Recorded on a stormy winter night in my cottage, with all the sounds of the wild Atlantic's wind and rain.

The lyrics to the old Scottish song ‘Auld Lang Syne’ are all about celebrating being together with old friends. The melody, however, goes much deeper. It’s brimming with a feeling of something timeless and very human, a distilled sense of connection to others that gives life its meaning.

Our connection to each other, strained as it was in recent years, is something that will be rightly celebrated this holiday season.

For me, so much has changed this past year. I’ve gone from being restricted to 5km from my cottage home, playing music for only my family, to playing for tens of millions online, and now live audiences around the world. I wanted to acknowledge the unforgettable events of this past year, while celebrating the great things to come in the year ahead. Releasing this song is my way of thanking everyone for this past year and inviting you all to come and celebrate life with me together by a cosy fire.

lyrics

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint-stoup!
and surely I'll be mine!
And we'll tak' a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pou'd the gowans fine;
But we've wander'd mony a weary fit,
sin' auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,
frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
sin' auld lang syne.

Fifth verse:
And there's a hand,
my trusty fiere!
and gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak' a right gude-willie waught,
for auld lang syne.
